Switzerland Saga

August 2002

Something very strange is going on at home at the moment. There has been a lot of talk about something called emigration, and Mum and Dad have been making weekend trips to a place called Switzerland.

Jack, George, and I like it when Mum and Dad go away for the weekend as Nanna and Granddad from the house by the beach come to look after us. They dont bring the beach, but they do bring us lots of treats so we like having them to stay.

Anyway the reason I know about this is because Mum and Dad having been having long chats in the kitchen. Jack and George never get to hear this stuff as they are always sleeping in the living room, but I like to be in the kitchen so I can patrol the floor for dropped food and remind Mum when it is time to start preparing our dinner. Apparently emigrating is a good thing, and it means we get to go and live somewhere new in a different country. I am very excited as I like going to different houses because there are lots of interesting new smells to investigate and new floors to check for dropped food.

The place we are going to is called Switzerland and is too far away to go in the van (our usual mode of transport) so instead we have to fly in a plane. I have never been on a plane before but Mum and Dad have, and they are always chatting about sitting in large comfy seats and the nice lady who comes and brings wine and food. It sounds like great fun, and instead of the wine I am hoping she will bring me a squeaky toy. There was also a mention of something called crates for us dogs but I wasn't sure what that was all about.

Tegan and Jack are unimpressed
"Are we expected to wear these in public?"

I also know that Switzerland is a very cold place. I know this because as soon as Mum found out we were going she bought us all new coats. They are thick fleece and have a wide strap that goes round our belly and a piece that pulls right up over our ears. Of course it is the middle of summer here, but she insisted that we try them on anyway. Jack and I weren't keen and stood sulking in the kitchen until she took them off but George on the other hand was thrilled, and pranced around the house in his panting like a train. He really has no idea.

George, on the other hand, is comfy
"...I do hope so!"

There also have squirrels in Switzerland, which is good news as I am getting rather good at chasing them. Once they run up the tree I bounce around at the bottom waiting for them to come back down. The only difference is that in Switzerland the squirrels are red and not grey. Personally I don't mind at all, and am actually hoping that Swiss squirrels might be a little slower than their UK cousins, because then I might catch one.

Anyway that is all I know about it for the moment. When I find out more I will write again.
