My First Holiday

Boys on the beach
Boys on the beach

I have just returned from my very first holiday, and thought I would write a little bit about it.

It started on a Friday afternoon when Mum put lots of food and all of our beds in the back of the van. Jack and George explained that as soon as Mum starts to load beds it is our job to leap around in the doorway and get under her feet so she doesn’t forget to take us too. This seemed to work, as she put us in the back of the car fairly soon after we started the bouncing thing.

We drove for quite some time, which was good, as I like being in the car and we had lots of beds to lie on so it was very comfortable.

Finally when we stopped we were at a place called the beach. Jack and George had been here lots of times, so as soon as they were let off the lead they ran onto the sand, but I waited for Mum as I wasn’t too sure. As soon as we stepped onto the sand I became very excited and ran around a lot. The beach was huge and the sand was very soft, and it was all very exciting. I kept running off and then running back to Mum to bite her hand so she would know how happy I was. We walked down towards the water and I went straight in and didn’t even run out when a big wave came (unlike Jack and George who don’t seem too sure about water that moves). I got very wet and then rolled in the sand and ran around a lot.

Eventually we all went back to the van and I was a bit sad as I liked the beach a lot, but this was because I didn’t realise that the holiday had only just started. We drove for a few minutes and then we stopped again. When we got out of the car I didn’t know where I was but Jack and George had obviously been here before because they went straight to the gate of one house in particular.

We all went into the house and Mum bought our beds and food in, so I immediately settled down for a snooze (well I am getting on a bit now and all the running on the beach had tired me out). Some new people came in to see me and they were called Nanna and Granddad. They fussed me a lot and the lady called Nanna gave me treats.

Over the next few days we went back to the beach a lot, and now I knew exactly where to go. I was so happy and did lots of running, which was easier on sand than it is in the mud we have at home. In between being at the beach we went back to the house and Nanna gave us lots of nice food when Mum wasn’t looking (ham was my favourite). Jack taught me that if you follow Nanna around the house and wag your tail when she looks at you, you will get a fuss or a treat. Jack and I did this a lot.

Finally the beds went back in the van and we set off for home. On the way we stopped back at Croftview Kennels, and I said hello to all the people who used top look after me when I lived there. It was nice to see everyone, but I was a little bit worried in case Mum decided to leave me there. Fortunately she put me back in the van and we all came back home together. I was pleased to be home and ran around the living room whining for a few minutes before going to sleep.

I like holidays, and hope we have another one again very soon.
