Moving to Our New Home in Switzerland

Feb 2003

This afternoon was very exciting as lots of enormous boxes were delivered to our house. Mum dragged them into the living room one at a time and I was generally helpful by bouncing around and trying to get in the boxes while they were being opened to see if they contained anything for me. When they were finally unwrapped the contents were actually quite dull—just a whole lot of new plastic bases which Mum put our beds in.

After all the bouncing and excitement I was so tired that I hopped straight into my new crate to try to have a snooze. At this point Mum decided she wanted to make a huge fuss of me and give me lots of treats and praise, when all I really wanted to do was go to sleep. All afternoon she had been telling me to get out of the way and when I finally did it she came and sat next to me telling me how clever I was.

I love my Mum dearly but sometimes I just don't understand her at all.

Today was fantastic. Several men came to our house to fuss and admire me. Every now and then they also put things in boxes, but mostly they were there to pay attention to me and feed me biscuits when they were drinking their tea.

5th March 2003

My new friends from yesterday came back today, so you can imagine my horror when instead of being allowed to stay inside and be fussed, Mum put me out in the garden with the other dogs. Thankfully she had bought us all a bone so I didn't have time to make too much fuss. Later on when everything was gone from the house except our crates we all drove over to Samantha's house to spend the night there for some reason. Sam is Mum's sister, and I really like her as she has a little girl called Tara who likes to pat me. Another good thing about Sam's house is the sofa—it is lovely and soft, so I was very cross that I wasn't allowed to lie on it.

Very early this morning all the other dogs went off in the van for a walk but I wasn't in the mood to go so I stayed behind. This of course allowed me to quickly pop up on the sofa for a few minutes of comfort, except I forgot to hop off when everyone came back from their walk. Thankfully I didn't get in trouble and it wasn't long before we all set off in the van again to a place called the airport.

I would now like to let everyone out there know that airports are the most fantastic place in the world. They are full of people standing in long lines who seemed quite happy to see four dogs arriving. It was fantastic as Mum and Sam bought all of our crates in and then spread all of our bedding out on the floor. All we were expected to do was lie there and be fussed. Sadly we eventually had to hop in our crates and were taken away to ride to our new house. To get to the new house we had to go in something called an aeroplane, but even that part was OK, as while we were waiting to get on lots of people kept stopping to talk to me.

When we got off the aeroplane Mum and Dad were there, but we still weren't at the new house. We all got into a car and I started to get quite stressed. I wouldn't lie down, and spent the entire trip trying to climb onto Mums lap while she was driving. By the time we finally did arrive she was covered in drool and seemed quite relieved. After a walk and some dinner I fell straight asleep.

Late March 2003

All in all moving to a new house has turned out very well.

The day when our furniture arrived was great as not only were there lots of people around to fuss me, but also when the boxes were emptied there was lots of lovely paper to lie in.

We have a lot more space here which means there are lots more beds to choose from. Also another amazing thing is that the floor is heated so it is always nice and warm.

We have a huge garden and on our patio are my very favourite beds. They are made of mesh and are about a foot off the ground on legs. Mum moves my bed around so it is in the sun for most of the day and I spend a lot of time on it.
