George Goes to Crufts

The inevitable has happened. Someone has recognized my star potential away from the racetrack. It all started one night a few weeks ago when my mum was on the 'phone (she spends a lot of her time doing this, so that in itself is not particularly remarkable). Suddenly, halfway through he conversation, she got all excited and started calling to my dad who was in the next room, "Georgie's going to Crufts". My dad laughed a lot and thought it was a joke, but as it turns out it is completely true. I of course was not surprised, as I have heard that all of the most beautiful dogs go there every year, so it is only natural that I should be chosen.

When mum got off the phone she seemed very excited, and explained that I was going along as a representative of PAT Dogs, so it didn't matter if I wasn't the most beautiful greyhound in the world. Personally I think bald patches and long legs are going to make a comeback really soon, and she was only saying this so her other greyhound, Jack (who is not invited), won't feel left out.

Since we found all of this out mum has been a bit nervous that some of my more unusual phobias might pose a problem, but as far as I can see all that is involved is lots of people making a fuss of me for a whole day. The only thing mum should be worrying about is how she will have to drag me away at the end.

The other thing that has also happened is that I have gathered a little entourage of human friends who will be coming with us. Auntie Alyson (who owns three greyhounds herself and once upon a time was my foster mum for a few days) is coming to do lots of shopping. Sylvia (who has one greyhound and used to walk me sometimes while my mum was at work) is also coming to witness my moment of glory (and probably also do some shopping).

Really, the whole thing is most exciting and I am really looking forward to it. I will be there on Sunday 12th March 2000, so if you happen to be going look out for me. I will write more about how it all goes after the event.
