Christmas 2002

Well what a wonderful time I have had over the past few days. It has been something called Christmas at our house, and it turns out that this is a very good time to be a greyhound in a home.

Firstly there is always something nice cooking in the kitchen, and most of the time something extra tasty ends up on your dinner.

Secondly you get lots of new things wrapped up in shiny paper. The paper is actually the best bit, as once you remove it you can carry it around with you. Paper is really nice as it's so versatile; you can carry it in your mouth, or rip it into lots and lots of tiny pieces.

Thirdly a tree has appeared in the living room, and this tree is covered in large, shiny balls, which are perfect for taking back to my bed.

I am, however, confused about one thing. Mum left a lovely box of yummy chocolates on the sideboard one night. In the middle of the night I got up and sniffed the box and it smelt so nice that I carried it back to my bed. I then carefully removed the lid, took out the chocolates (and to be totally honest there weren’t that many left when I started), pulled off the little foil wrappers, and had a tasty midnight snack. I was very pleased, as I had done all of this without waking anyone or making any mess, but when Mum came downstairs the next morning she didn’t seem amazed at how clever I had been. I am confused really, as if she didn't want me to help myself, then why did she leave them where I could find them?

Still even though she pretended to be cross for a minute, I have still had a brilliant Christmas.
