Links To Other WebsitesThese are some of my favourite greyhound-related sites. Many of the online retail sites are based in the UK, and those that aren't will ship to the UK (and usually Europe) if required. In most cases I have used the ones that offer goods for sale, and they are listed here because I have found their service and products to be of the highest quality. If there is a particular site that you would like to see here, please e-mail me the details. Please note that these links will open in a new window, but if you don't close it, they will all open in the same one.
HealthArthritis Resource Centre is a nice source of information on arthritis in pets. It carefully explains the different types of arthritis, and then discusses a variety of treatment options listing both the pros and the cons of each one. It does have some annoying pop up adverts, but is still worth the effort if you have a dog that suffers with hip displaysia or arthritis. It is also important to bear in mind that the site does 'push' one particular brand of supplement - that of its sponsors! However I don't feel this detracts from the information, it is just something to remember. B-naturals do a wide selection of supplements and health care products for dogs. They will happily advise on appropriate treatments for a range of conditions, and for everyday use we particularly like their Daily Blend powder. Blue Powder Ear Treatment offers a recipe for a very simple and effective treatment for a whole range of ear problems. I have used this several times on various dogs, and always found it to help. Canine Natural Cures is a mail order service selling homeopathic remedies for everything, from fear of thunder to aggression. The only disappointment is that some of the tablets are the hard sugar pill type that many dogs are experts at spitting out. It is worth checking the form of any tablets you are interested in ordering. Dog Health offer a range of treatments, including natural wormers and calming remedies. They also stock quality vet bedding and a variety of other products such as grooming equipment. Flower Essences lists an extensive range of treatments to help deal with grief and loss. I have used many of these on both the people and dogs in our family whenever we loose a beloved pet. Helios Homeopathic Pharmacy will make any remedy you require. They offer a variety of tablet types, including large soft pills that are brilliant for dogs, as they dissolve immediately which makes it impossible for your dog to spit them out! They do an excellent mail order service, for all products including the full range of Nosdoes used for homeopathic vaccination. Hilton Herbs sell a variety of herbal products for dogs, in both a liquid and dried form. The web site contains lots of useful information on how to use their products to increase the health of your pet, or treat particular problems. Their equine range offers good value for money if you have more than two or three dogs. How To Dremel Dogs Nails gives a detailed explanation (both words and pictures) on how to use a Dremel to keep your dogs nails short and smooth. I have started using a Dremel on my dogs and it is wonderful! With a proper introduction they have all accepted it very well, and it keeps their nails short and smooth with a minimum of effort. It is a particularly good method for dogs with dark coloured nails. McTimoney Chiropractic Association gives information on this gentle form of back adjustment, and will help you to locate a specially trained animal practitioner in your area. All my dogs go for regular 'maintenance' and clearly feel much easier after the treatment. The Merck Veterinary Manual is a huge and comprehensive reference for animal care information. A good place to start researching questions about your dog (or practically any other domestic animal). Natural Animal Health is a UK-based site that offers a comprehensive directory of alternative animal practitioners and facilities such as dog friendly swimming pools. A selection of recipes to help your dog gain weight. They can also be useful for dogs who are not particularly food motivated to tempt them to eat. The Storm Defender coat was designed for dogs that exhibit fear before or during thunderstorms. After trying many things to help George cope with his intense storm phobia, this was the one product that finally 'cured' him. They offer 100% money back guarantee. And you may like to note the handsome model on the top of the front page of the website Susan Stack DVM is an extremely experienced US based greyhound vet. This site includes many of the articles she has written about some of the most common greyhound ailments. There is also an excellent section addressing common greyhound myths. It makes a good starting place if you have any breed specific medical concerns about your greyhound, although please remember that many of the numerical values quoted may be different from those used in the UK (or other parts of the world where different testing and measurement systems are utilised). Symetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy (SLO) is an auto-immune disease that causes a dog's nails to fall off. It is painful, messy, and quite rare, so you may find your vet has never seen (or heard) of it. This was the case when Buttons first presented with the symptoms, and his successful treatment was based entirely on the information from this site (and the associated Yahoo group.) Although not a common disease I do know of many greyhounds who have suffered with it, hence the reason for this link. The Canine Care Group is an excellent resource for anyone interested in trying homeopathy for their dogs. After filling in an extensive questionnaire about your dog, a remedy will be made specifically to address any problems. There is a small charge for this service. The remedies are made in liquid form (so easy to administer) and the remedy made for George for his firework phobia really seemed to help. I have to be honest and say customer service isn’t always as good as one would hope, but the quality of the remedies does make up for this. The Manuka Honey Shop sells a wide range of honey based products to treat a variety of injuries and problems. I have used their honey on a large open wound on Tegan's leg (click here to read more about her injury) and the effects have been miraculous. A site worth a visit just to read about the amazing healing powers of the stuff we usually spread on our toast! TheraPaw boots are designed to help dogs with a wide variety of foot problems. It has a comprehensive list (including pictures) of just about any foot condition you are ever likely to come across with your dogs. A wonderful resource. Vet Medic Online Pharmacy. Mail order supplies of veterinary medicines, often much cheaper than buying from your vet. If your dog is on any form of regular medication, this site is worth a visit. They also sell DAP diffusers and refills. Aside from the links posted above (all of which will take you to external websites) I have written about my own personal experiences of greyhound health related issues such as diet, arthritis, vaccination, stomach problems, and toxicity of chocolate and grapes. Click on the 'Greyhound Care' icon in the menu for a full list of my health related ramblings. [top] Information contained herein is provided 'as is'. No warranty is given or implied.
