About Fiona's Fastdogs

Jack was my first greyhound, and he arrived in October 1998. After Jack's arrival I fostered a few dogs until the inevitable happened. In June 1999, George became my fifth foster dog, and the one that never left! In December 2001 I discovered the joy of re-homing an older dog when we were joined by Jerry.

After losing Jerry only five months later the house felt empty, and in June 2002 Tegan became not only my first non-brindle, but also the very first female, to join our family. Although I had not planned to extend the pack any further, after seeing a picture of Buttons on the Internet, and subsequently visiting him in kennels, he finally came home for a three day trial in November 2002. Needless to say, he never went back to kennels!

Over the years with various dogs I have encountered a range of both physical and behavioural problems, which has prompted me to write about some of the solutions that I have found most helpful. I have also included some more general information on what to expect for the first few days you have your new greyhound at home.

I don't think that there is a greyhound book out there that I haven't read, so I have a page of book reviews, not only greyhound books but also some other fun dog titles I have enjoyed.

Sadly I lost Jerry to cancer (osteosarcoma) in May 2002, and have written a diary of his illness. I have also included some advice on things that helped me to cope knowing that Jerry's time was limited.

My early experiences of dog ownership led me towards feeding a natural diet, so I have included some information about that, along with recipes for some of our favourite home made treats.

Taking on Jerry at the age of 11 has prompted me to add some thoughts on what is involved in re-homing an older dog.

In November 2002 a friend of mine bred a litter of pups, and kindly allowed me to photograph them from birth. If you would like to see what your dog looked like before he made it to your sofa, click here.

I hope you will enjoy meeting the dogs and looking around my web site. Please feel free to e-mail me with any comments you may have, or add to my guestbook.
